Rep. Tim Ryan takes a stand for struggling and poor Americans on the Congress floor

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a stand on the Congress floor that moved me as much as Rep. Tim Ryan’s stand this week for the American people, many of whom are now struggling financially, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ryan’s speech came during debate over Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion relief bill, which passed the Senate last week and came back to the House for a final vote before heading to President Biden’s desk.

If you haven’t seen this floor speech yet, you should.

If you’re confused about the references to Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head, this article from Jonathan Lemire and Jill Colvin from the AP does a great job explaining it. (Yes, it’s as stupid as you’d imagine.)

Thank you, Tim Ryan, for helping to remind me why I’m a Democrat — because we actually care about the little guys, not the big-shot CEOs, in this country.
